Farmer to Farmer Trading

Many crop breeders allow farmer-to-farmer direct seed sales of specific crop varieties, provided Variety License conditions met and the trade is correctly recorded.

When trading grain between growers, the PBR Act still governs the transaction and compliance with EPR payment is required.

While each breeder has slightly different requirements, the following common steps generally apply.

  1. Check whether direct grower-to-grower sales are permitted for that specific variety. This is available within the Variety and Rates information tables.
  2. If direct trade is permitted, visit the variety breeder’s website for information about their process and requirements, to ensure the sale is recorded correctly.
  3. Conduct the trade, complete all required paperwork and return to the relevant breeder in line with their processes.

If you have any questions, please contact the relevant Royalty Manager for the variety you want to trade.
